Yankees and Phillies may get into a trade deadline bidding war for SF Giants outfielder

The trade deadline is almost here and the SF Giants have been active as they have already traded Tyler Mahle to the Atlanta Braves and Luis Arraez and Caleb Kilian to the Philadelphia Phillies. Expect them to continue to make moves and there is a decent chance that they could draw the Phillies and New York Yankees into a bidding war for outfielder Heliot Ramos.

Recent reporting suggests that the Yankees have interest in Ramos which should not come as a shock to anyone. With both Cody Bellinger and Aaron Judge injured, the Yankees need help in the outfield and Ramos could be the guy.

He was an All-Star in 2024 and while Giants fans know his defense is decidedly below average, he hit over 20 home runs each of the last two years and this season he’s hitting .264/.304/.424 with nine home runs and 34 runs batted in.

The Phillies may also be desperate for some help in the outfield. They have been searching for help out there ever since the Adolis Garcia injury and they have not gotten the production they were hoping for from their right-handed hitters so Ramos would make a ton of sense.

Even though both the Yankees and Phillies have a lot of big names in their lineups, they have both struggled offensively this year. Ramos is not going to solve all of their problems but he’s a solid hitter who is under team control until after the 2029 season when he will be a free agent.

SF Giants would be wise to try to sell high on Heliot Ramos

The Giants should get a pretty decent return for him and they could even try to maximize that return by pairing him with Robbie Ray. The Phillies are reportedly still in the market for a veteran starter and would likely be open to another trade package from the Giants.

The Yankees aren’t really looking for starting pitching but maybe the Giants could pair Ramos with one of their better relievers like Erik Miller or a free agent like Sam Hentges or JT Brubaker.

The Giants are in a really advantageous position right now and they absolutely need to take advantage. Ramos is one of the better offensive trade chips still available and there are two teams desperate to win interested in his services so if Buster Posey is smart he will let them compete to make the best offer in the next six hours or so.
