Phillies won't be able to resist another SF Giants trade package after Luis Arraez trade

The SF Giants swung a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies that sent second baseman Luis Arraez and reliever Caleb Kilian in exchange for two young minor league pitchers. That may not be the only deal the two teams strike with the trade deadline looming at 3 PM PST on Monday.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Phillies are still interested in veteran pitching. They could also use some help in the outfield, especially a right-handed hitting outfielder. This could be a perfect opportunity for San Francisco to package Robbie Ray and Heliot Ramos in a trade with the Phillies.

Philadelphia’s GM Dave Dombrowski has shown he’s going for it right now. After the Arraez deal it was announced that the Phillies also acquired lefty reliever Brooks Raley from the New York Mets so they are very active right now.

If they want veteran pitching then they really can’t do much better than Ray. He’s pitched very well as of late with a 1.26 ERA in his last seven starts and would be a super welcome addition to Philadelphia’s rotation as they try to secure a playoff spot.

Ramos is also a perfect fit for the Phillies and has been for some time. Ever since Philadelphia lost Adolis Garcia to injury they’ve been looking for a way to adequately replace him and Ramos would be a solid addition who is under team control beyond this year.

He’d give the lineup a bit of a jolt and even if his defense leaves plenty to be desired he should hit fairly well in Philadelphia’s hitter-friendly home ballpark.

What could Giants get from Phillies for Robbie Ray-Heliot Ramos trade package?

The Giants could probably get another solid prospect from Philadelphia if they packaged Ray and Ramos. They already got Philly’s No. 4 prospect in pitcher Ramon Marquez from the Arraez deal. Is it completely insane to think the Giants could get Philadelphia’s top prospect, pitcher Gage Wood, in a deal?

Perhaps the Phillies would be more willing to part with Andrew Painter, the team’s top prospect last year who has struggled to the tune of a 6.72 ERA in the majors this year.

The Giants need to be aggressive and packaging Ray and Ramos may be the best way to maximize a return. The Phillies are clearly going for it so the Giants should keep on calling and try to get another deal done.
