Predicting the 5 players SF Giants will trade ahead of the trade deadline

The MLB trade deadline is on August 3 at 3 PM PST. Predicting trades is a tricky thing to do even though we do a lot of it here at Around the Foghorn. The SF Giants have trade chips to deal and as of this writing none have been dealt so there’s still time to predict them and probably be wrong.

Still, it’s a fun thought exercise to try to think through who will be dealt and where they will go. We did a prediction like this with the 2026 MLB Draft and I got two of the team’s first five selections right so I’m hoping my batting average will be a little higher with the trade predictions. Let’s guess which five Giants will be dealt, where they will go, and who the Giants will get in return.

Predicting 5 Giants who will be gone by trade deadline

Luis Arraez

We will get the obvious ones out of the way first. Arraez has been excellent but a lot of teams could use a player like him. Let’s say he goes to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for a pitcher like Brody Hopkins and maybe right-handed pitcher Anderson Brito. The Rays could use a second baseman and they have a chance to fend off the New York Yankees in their division if they add at the deadline.

Robbie Ray

Ray’s likely last start as a Giant was great and let’s predict that he is going to go to an unlikely AL contender as well in the Chicago White Sox. They need another starter and Ray could maybe get a return of pitcher Tanner McDougal and catcher Landon Hodge so the Giants get more pitching depth and an interesting young catcher. A lot of teams could use a starter like Ray though so he could conceivably go to a half dozen teams.

Heliot Ramos

It’s not as much of a slam dunk that Ramos will be traded, but it just makes sense given the fact that the Giants have some promising younger outfielders and they need to improve their pitching staff somehow. I’m really falling in love with the idea of a Ramos for Emerson Hancock swap with the Seattle Mariners but maybe that just makes too much sense and is too obvious for it to work. That’s still my prediction though but watch out for the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees as well.

JT Brubaker

The Giants would be wise to trade their relievers who are going to be free agents after the year. JT Brubaker has been solid and could help provide depth to a bullpen. How about a trade that send Brubaker to the New York Yankees, a team he pitched pretty well for last year, in exchange for Kaeden Kent, the son of Jeff Kent, since I will not let that dream die.

Sam Hentges

Hentges is another free agent to be and teams could always use a solid lefty. The Baltimore Orioles in particular are rumored to have interest in a lefty reliever and they’re 2.5 games out of the AL Wild Card so trading for Hentges is the exact sort of quasi-buy move a team like them would make. Maybe they’d be willing to give up 17-year-old Andri Hidalgo so the Giants at least got a flier out of the deal.

So there you have it. Five players, and five predictions. Arraez and Ray are the only for sure guys who will be gone and there’s a chance they trade even more players. General manager Zack Minasian says teams have checked in on a dozen players so maybe they really sell at the deadline and closer to 10 guys are gone but this is my guess for the five guys who will be traded.
