Maybe the team won't have to spend big in the offseason.

The SF Giants are on a tear and a big reason why is the production on offense. Two young outfielders, Drew Gilbert and Luis Matos, have hit very well and could end up changing Buster Posey's offseason plans if they keep it up.

After the Giants traded away right fielder Mike Yastrzemski at the trade deadline, the team has had to scramble to figure out what to do in right field. They have tried out a number of players, but it seems the two who have stuck have been Gilbert and Matos.

Matos caught fire for a bit and appeared to be grabbing hold of right field duties. In his last 15 games he has slashed .365/.393/.635 with three home runs and eight runs batted in. Consistent playing time seemed to really benefit him and helped him find a rhythm at the plate, but then a new young outfielder got hot too.

At first, it seemed like Gilbert, who was acquired in the Tyler Rogers trade, could not buy a hit. He was struggling to get anything going but he has found something at the dish as of late and is slashing .526/.550/1.105 in his last seven games with two home runs and eight runs batted in.

He has also brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm, as well as some weirdness, to the team as of late which has been sorely missed. It seems like he was the exact kind of guy they needed at just the right time.

We will see how these two young outfielders finish the season, but if they continue to hit well and help the team win that could really change how Posey and the Giants approach the offseason. Right field definitely seemed like a position the team would look to upgrade in the offseason with one big fish being a potential white whale for Posey and the front office.

Maybe the play of Matos and Gilbert makes Posey believe the Giants can go into next season with either a platoon between the two or maybe just letting them compete for the job in spring training.

The Giants have a lot of money wrapped up in other players on the roster and may feel there are more pressing areas to upgrade like the starting rotation. Maybe the team will just roll with the two youngsters out there next season if they stay hot to finish 2025.
