With the SF Giants set to begin their series against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night at Oracle Park, the team will get a great look at left-handed hitter Kyle Tucker who could be a major potential offseason target for the team.
Chicago swung a trade for Tucker in the offseason knowing he could hit free agency following the 2025 season. If he does become a free agent, expect the Giants to be heavily connected to him considering they have a Tucker-sized hole in right field.
SF Giants will get a good look at Kyle Tucker in series vs. Cubs
The Giants were connected to Tucker in the offseason when reports came out that the Houston Astros could be looking to move on from him. We even put together a potential mock trade at the time to see what it might take to land him.
Before the offseason is even upon us, the Giants have already been connected to Tucker yet again if he hits free agency. Yet, there will be no shortage of suitors for Tucker given everything he brings to the table and Giants fans have been burned far too many times by big names in free agency to get their hopes up too much.
This season with Chicago, Tucker has slashed .262/.375/.464 with 21 home runs and 69 runs batted in along with 25 stolen bases. Tucker is a four-time All-Star and a Gold Glove Award winner so he truly is a five-tool player.
After slumping for a bit, Tucker now appears to be back on track as he just recorded his first multi-homer game in a Cubs uniform. Chicago will need their slugger to be at his best if they want to make a run in the playoffs so he seems to be heating up at the right time.
We will see how he fares at Oracle Park these next three games. The park can be notoriously difficult for left-handed hitters so if he has a rough time perhaps he will cross San Francisco off his list of potential destinations in free agency.
However, if the Giants continue to fight and play the kind of baseball they did in Milwaukee then maybe that will show Tucker that the team, despite all of the disappointments of this season, is in a position to succeed in 2026 and may be just one bat away from being a playoff team.
Luis Matos may be auditioning to be the starting right fielder for 2026 right now with his hot streak at the plate, but in many fans' dream scenario Tucker would be out there patrolling right field for the Giants next season.
