Dodgers fans embarrassingly show true colors with empty seats against Giants

Taking off early, eh?

For seasoned SF Giants fans, seeing Los Angeles Dodgers fans leave early should come as no surprise. Still, it’s fun every time it happens and Giants fans got to be delighted as Dodgers fans left early in each of the first two games of the series against LA.

The Giants won easily on Monday night 9-3. It was a great victory for the team and by the end of the contest the stands were pretty sparse. Sure, it’s a Monday night and yes that LA traffic can be brutal but it’s still funny to see Dodgers fans give up on the game like that.

The same thing happened on Tuesday night. The Giants won fairly comfortably 6-2 even though things did get interesting and the Dodgers got the tying run to the plate in the eighth inning. Yet again, fans headed towards the exit even though Shohei Ohtani was due up in the bottom of the ninth.

Dodgers fans live up to their poor reputation during Giants victories

Dodgers fans have a certain reputation around baseball and it’s not a very good one. Chicago Cubs star Pete Crow-Armstrong, a Southern California native, spoke about it during the offseason. Even Kyle Tucker revealed the casual nature of a lot of Dodgers fans with some recent postgame remarks after a walk-off win.

This doesn’t apply to all Dodgers fans. As much as it pains me to write it there are knowledgeable Dodgers fans who stay until the end of the game but that doesn’t change the perception around baseball that a lot of people in the stands at Dodgers Stadi- excuse me, I mean UNIQLO Field, show up in the third inning so they can take some pictures for social media and then leave in the seventh inning.

Even last year during the World Series many people watching at home were struck by the number of empty seats at Dodgers home games. Los Angeles has a lot going on and the team has already won two straight World Series titles so maybe fans are burnt out. It’s like the Marvel or Star Wars franchises since many people have just had too much and it’s not special anymore which is why box office totals are down for those blockbuster movies. The Dodgers are even worse because it just feels inevitable that the villains are going to win.

The Giants have two more games against the Dodgers this series and they are 4-1 against their dreaded rival this season which is pretty impressive considering they’ve been kicked around by the Dodgers the last few years.

Maybe manager Tony Vitello’s intensity and unique brand of energy helps the Giants lock in against the Dodgers. Whatever it is, it’s clearly working so let’s hope the Giants can get two more wins and send Dodgers fans to the exit early yet again tonight and on Thursday.
