Which SF Giants prospect has been on the rise this season? According to MLB Pipeline, young pitching prospect Argenis Cayama is one of the biggest risers in the Giants' system.

A strong case could have been made for Keyner Martinez as well. Both pitchers have quickly emerged up the Giants' prospect rankings. Cayama comes in at No. 8, followed by Martinez at No. 9 based on MLB Pipeline's most recent rankings.
Those rankings also include some recent Giants additions to the organization. Blade Tidwell and Drew Gilbert come in at No. 12 and No. 13, respectively. Tidwell had an electric debut with the Sacramento River Cats earlier this week, whereas Gilbert has provided a jolt to the lineup.
Jesus Rodriguez (No. 16), Carlos De La Rosa (No. 24), and Yunior Marte (No. 25) round out the prospects added at the deadline that slot right into the Giants' top rankings. Rodriguez and De La Rosa were acquired in the Camilo Doval trade, and Marte was added in the Mike Yastrzemski trade.
Argenis Cayama signed with the Giants in 2024 out of Venezuela for $147,500. Yoendry Sanchez and Jhonny Level were among the top Giants prospects signed during that cycle.
Cayama has put together some strong numbers since becoming a pro. He pitched to a 2.59 ERA with 29 strikeouts and nine walks in 24.1 innings last summer in the Dominican Summer League. He followed that up with an even stronger season in the Arizona Complex League this summer, where he posted a 2.25 ERA with 55 strikeouts and 18 walks in 48 innings. He also did not allow a home run.
Cayama, along with Keyner Martinez, anchored an ACL rotation that was the best in the league. With the ACL season concluding in July, Cayama has moved up to San Jose.
On the mound, the right-handed pitcher features a mid-90's fastball that can reach the upper 90's. He gives opposing hitters two different looks with his fastball, as he throws a sinker and a four-seamer. He mixes in a low-80's gyro slider that has some potential, and a mid-80's changeup that is still a work in progress.
