The SF Giants are currently taking on Team USA in spring training as the representatives of the United States are getting ready for the World Baseball Classic. It's the perfect day for some familiar faces to head to Scottsdale Stadium and anyone watching the ESPN broadcast of the game saw Giants legends Brandon Crawford and Bruce Bochy taking in the game with Buster Posey in a suite.
Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reported before the game that Crawford and Bochy were there, so it was cool to see both guys taking in the action. Crawford went to a spring training game last year after his retirement and has a home in Arizona so it is not too inconvenient for him to watch a game.
Bochy is now employed by the Giants again as an adviser in the front office so he will definitely be around the team more this year now that he is probably done managing for good.
Bochy and Crawford in attendance as SF Giants face Team USA
Familiar faces are a common sight in Scottsdale when the Giants are in town. Ever since Posey has taken over as president of baseball operations he has made it a point to have a lot of former players and coaches in camp from different eras.
It's a cool opportunity for the Giants to face off against Team USA as they get tuned up for the WBC. Team USA has an absolutely stacked lineup so this is without question the best competition the Giants are going to face this spring.
Bryce Eldridge had a really impressive swing of the bat against Paul Skenes as he smoke a pitch to deep center that was ultimately caught by center fielder Byron Buxton. But to hit a ball that hard against one of the best pitchers in the game is a great sign and should boost his confidence.
Of course, Giants ace Logan Webb is a member of Team USA and will take the ball on Friday in the team's first game of the competition. Webb said he'd be trash talking the Giants from the dugout so surely he kept his word.
The main hope is that Webb remains healthy in the competition. He is only set to start two games so hopefully he can avoid injury while getting some good work in ahead of the regular season.
It's always cool to see legends like Crawford and Bochy around the yard and it was great to see them on Tuesday afternoon.
