Jacob Bresnahan made one start last week for the Eugene Emeralds, but that was enough to make an impact. The SF Giants lefty prospect took home the Northwest League Pitcher of the Week honors.
Later this season, the Emeralds will head to the Northwest League Championship Series after clinching a first-half title. They have dominated the league on both sides of the ball. The offense has posted a .767 OPS while putting up 5.28 runs per game, which ranks third in the league in both categories.
That unit is led by a handful of top recent picks, including Trevor Cohen, Dakota Jordan, and Gavin Kilen. Cohen got off to a slow start, but he has been on a tear lately. Jordan and Kilen have both been consistent producers.
The pitching staff leads the league with a 4.28 ERA. There have already been some promotions from that group, including Yunior Marte and Ben Peterson. The pitching staff still includes some of the organization's best pitching prospects in Jacob Bresnahan and Luis De La Torre.
SF Giants pitching prospect Jacob Bresnahan had one of his best outings yet in the Northwest League
Last week, the Emeralds faced off against the Tri-City Dust Devils. It was an unusually rough week for them, as they lost four out of six games. They currently have a 42-24 record, so they have not been on the losing end of a series all that often.
One of those losses came in Bresnahan's best start with the Emeralds. He completed six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and one walk in a 3-2 defeat to the Dust Devils.
Overall, the left-handed pitcher is off to an uneven start with Eugene. He began the season on the injured list and has battled some control problems. That said, Bresnahan is still just 20 years old and facing older competition in the Northwest League. Overall, he has pitched to a 3.92 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 10.5 K/9, and a 2.18 SO/W rate across 41.1 frames.
The encouraging news is that he is still recording high strikeout totals and has been tough to hit. Opposing hitters have just a .645 OPS against him this season. These were just some of the traits that made him the California League Pitcher of the Year in 2025.
