The Eugene Emeralds will return to the playoffs in 2026. The SF Giants High-A affiliates clinched a first-half title, thereby securing a spot in the playoffs.
Playoffs?! Yes, the playoffs are determined a little differently in the lower minors. The team that has the best record in the first and second half compete in the playoffs. If a team has the best record in both halves, then the next best record in the second half will advance to the playoffs.
Some leagues have at least one series that determines who will reach the championship series. However, the Northwest League is smaller, so there is only one playoff series, which is the championship series.
For Eugene, this will be a return to familiar territory. They faced off against the Everett AquaSox in a best-of-five series. However, the AquaSox defeated the Emeralds in four games.
Competing for a championship will be a familiar feeling for many SF Giants High-A prospects
A lot can change between now and the playoffs. Minor league rosters in June tend to look a little different from the ones that show up in September. There are often promotions around this time of year. Plus, the draft is right around the corner, and some top picks do reach as high as High-A before the season concludes.
This iteration of the Emeralds has stormed through the Northwest League. Their 40-18 overall record leads the league by a huge margin. The Tri-City Dust Devils are in second place with a 31-27 record.
Eugene has the second-best offense. They have put up a .769 OPS while averaging 5.41 runs per game. The pitching side has been even better. Their pitching staff leads the league with a 3.98 ERA.
That is a sign of the talent on the roster. It could also be a sign that players might move up to Double-A before the season ends. There has already been some movement in that direction. Yunior Marte, Jean Carlos Sio, Ben Peterson, and Jack Payton have made the move to the East Coast.
While a return to the playoffs is familiar territory for Eugene, it is also familiar territory for many of its players. The Emeralds' roster features a lot of players from the 2025 San Jose Giants. Jhonny Level, Dakota Jordan, Carlos Gutierrez, and Luis De La Torre are just some of the names. Even Gavin Kilen and Trevor Cohen made a cameo appearance at the end of last season. This is already an experienced roster in the postseason.
