The SF Giants made a handful of promotions to start the month. According to Francys Romero of Beisbolfr.com, top middle infield prospect Jhonny Level is moving up to High-A after a strong run with the San Jose Giants.

Romero also confirmed that middle infield prospect Jean Carlos Sio is on the move. He will go up to Double-A. Lastly, Chase Ford of MiLB Central confirmed that Matt Wilkinson is making up to Triple-A.

When the draft was held in June, that was usually followed with a wave of promotions throughout the system. That remains true today, but it is not nearly as expansive as it was in the past.

When players perform well, I still look at June as a good time to make a promotion. If that player began the season in a new league, it is not necessarily too aggressive to promote that player at this point in the season.

With all that said, the Giants have made plenty of promotions early in the season. The biggest feeder has been from Double-A to Triple-A. Drew Cavanaugh, Aeverson Arteaga, Scott Bandura, and Turner Hill are some of the names who have moved up to the highest level in the minors this season.

SF Giants move Jhonny Level up to High-A after blistering start

The Giants were somewhat more conservative with Jhonny Level. He got off to a blistering start with the San Jose Giants, posting a .325/.392/.576 line (134 wRC+) with 10 home runs, 47 RBI, and 38 runs in 217 plate appearances. Level was one of the younger players in the California League, and will become the youngest position player in the Northwest League so far this season.

Level will join Gavin Kilen as the primary middle infielders on the Eugene Emeralds' roster. Kilen was a first round pick out of the University of Tennessee last year, and has spent all of his time at shortstop this season.

The Giants also promoted Jean Carlos Sio and Matt Wilkinson. Sio posted a .936 OPS with four home runs and 13 RBI for the Emeralds this season. This was his second turn through the Northwest League.

Sio signed with the Giants during the 2022 international signing cycle out of Cuba. He is a solid athlete with a good feel for hitting. He laces line drives with regularity, and continues to try and maximize his limited raw power with a pull-heavy approach.

Wilkinson joined the Giants organization at the beginning of May. He came over in the trade that sent Patrick Bailey to the Cleveland Guardians. The southpaw pitcher posted a 2.40 ERA with 13 strikeouts and four walks in three starts for Richmond.
