SF Giants fans would love it if Buster Posey gave this gift to fans.

Christmas came early for SF Giants fans when it was reported that the Giants were signing free agent shortstop Willy Adames to a massive deal. Now, fans are hoping that president of baseball operations Buster Posey has left another expensive gift under the tree.

As human beings we are inherently greedy. The Adames signing had not even become official yet and Giants fans were already clamoring for another gift. Sure, that PS5 is great and all, but what about that XBOX, Buster Claus?

In this case, the XBOX is ace starting pitcher Corbin Burnes. The four-time All-Star and 2021 NL Cy Young Award winner would make fans forget all about that Grinch Blake Snell who bolted from the Giants in favor of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The 2.92 ERA Burnes sported last season with the Baltimore Orioles in 194 and 1/3 innings will make fans salivate. Pairing the Saint Mary's College of California product with Logan Webb at the top of the starting rotation would give San Francisco a very formidable one-two punch going into next season.

Plus, given how reliable both Webb and Burnes have been historically, it would take a lot of stress off of a bullpen that was very taxed last season.

Corbin Burnes to the SF Giants makes sense but may not get done

There has been no shortage of rumors linking Burnes to the Giants. Yet, if Snell is the Grinch, Burnes's agent Scott Boras is Ebenezer Scrooge who is intent on squeezing every last cent out of whichever team signed Burnes.

The price for starting pitching has been incredibly high this offseason. Snell signed a five-year deal worth $182 million and lefty Max Fried signed an eight-year $218 million contract. If the Giants want to reel in Burnes, it seems highly likely that his contract will exceed $200 million.

Now, Buster will kindly remind us that we already have plenty of good starting pitching already so we should not be too greedy. 'But Buster, all of the other kids have fancy new starting pitchers! Why can't we have one too!'

Buster is sort of like a dad trying to impress his kids in this new role. Sure, we will never forget how he turned the franchise around as a player, but he knows how bad fans want to compete in a crowded and tough NL West division. Signing Burnes would not guarantee anything, but it would make the team's path to the playoffs in 2025 much clearer.

We may be greedy after Buster already spoiled us with the big Adames splash, but with the Dodgers spending money like crazy it is only natural that Giants fans are hoping that Posey has made another big splash to land Corbin Burnes in free agency.
