Spring training is a perfect time to see players a lot of SF Giants fans have never heard of and one spunky infielder, Nate Furman, is proving that he is worth keeping an eye on early in camp with the way that he has been playing thus far.

Acquired in the Alex Cobb trade back in 2024, Furman was touted as a speedy young prospect with some upside. He hit really well in 2025 across multiple levels and he is doing some good things already in the Cactus League.

SF Giants have an intriguing prospect on their hands in Nate Furman

In 10 at-bats, Furman has three hits including a double and a game-tying home run he hit against the Chicago White Sox on Monday. He is also playing hard and with some spunk. In a recent game he hit a fairly routine ground ball to the second baseman but he busted it down the line and lost his helmet in the process. That is the sign of a guy who knows nothing is going to be handed to him and is willing to go all out. Those little things will catch the attention of the coaching staff.

Last season in the minors, Furman slashed a collective .369/.493/.607 with seven home runs and 22 runs batted in. That was in a pretty small sample size across 36 games, but those are numbers worth getting excited about. It would not be a big shock if he began the year in Double-A and a promotion to Triple-A is certainly a possibility if he continues to hit the ball well.

Furman has primarily played second base for the Giants in the Cactus League, but he also plays third base and left field so he can be used as a utility guy all over the diamond. Those kinds of guys are valuable so it would not be a shock if he ends up being a utility bat for the Giants somewhere down the road.

The other player acquired in the Cobb trade was pitcher Jacob Bresnahan who is now considered one of the top pitching prospects in the organization. The Giants have to feel pretty good about the return they got in that deal as both players are trending in the right direction.

Furman may very well be reassigned to minor league camp soon, but he has done enough to get people's attention in the Cactus League so he is definitely someone to keep an eye on.
