The SF Giants' coaching staff will look a lot different next year, but there will be some continuity. According to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area, assistant hitting coach Oscar Bernard and quality control coach Taira Uematsu will return to the coaching staff in 2026.

That may be the only holders. The Giants had left the door open for first base coach Mark Hallberg to return, but he was announced as the Minnesota Twins' new bench coach, per Dan Hayes of The Athletic.

Hallberg had been a coach in the minors before joining the Giants' staff as an assistant coach in 2020. Since then, he has worked as both a third base and first base coach. Hallberg was college teammates with Buster Posey at Florida State University.

The new coaching is beginning to take shape. Jayce Tingler is reportedly set to join Tony Vitello's coaching staff, as well as Toronto Blue Jays assistant hitting coach Hunter Mense.

The Giants have moved on from Matt Williams, Ryan Christenson, J.P. Martinez, Pat Burell, Damon Minor, and Garvin Alston. Martinez landed a job as a bullpen coach for the Atlanta Braves.

In a bit of a surprise, Christenson was announced as the A's new first base coach. He spent two seasons with the Giants as their bench coach, and he oversaw the team's baserunning and defense, both of which were some of the biggest weaknesses in 2025.

Oscar Bernard and Taira Uematsu might be the lone holdovers from the previous staff. Bernard worked as a hitting coordinator for the San Diego Padres' minor league system for several seasons before earning a promotion to the major league staff in 2023.

Bob Melvin was the manager for the Padres during that season. When Melvin joined the Giants in 2024, Bernard moved back into a hitting coordinator role with San Diego before joining the Giants' coaching staff in 2025. He worked closely with Rafael Devers following the trade.

Uematsu now becomes one of the longest-tenured coaches in the organization. He served as an assistant coach for a couple of seasons before becoming the team's quality control coach. That role varies from team to team, but focuses on fundamentals and game preparation.
