SF Giants third baseman Matt Chapman got suspended one game for his role in Tuesday's dustup with the Colorado Rockies. Yet, he was still able to play on Thursday and delivered a defiant performance by mashing two home runs.

Chapman was able to play because he appealed the suspension. We will see if MLB decides to rescind the one-game suspension which they potentially could since it feels a little unjust that Chapman is the only one from the episode to receive a suspension while other players just got fined.

Matt Chapman comes up big for SF Giants in spite of suspension news

Sure, one could argue that Chapman did escalate the situation a little bit by pushing Rockies pitcher Kyle Freeland, whose role in the situation has earned scorn, after he and Rafael Devers were jawing at one another following Devers' home run off Freeland.

Yet, Chapman really seemed to be trying to defend his teammate as was shortstop Willy Adames who also made some physical contact with players on the Rockies. Both Chapman and Adames were tossed from the game along with Freeland but the Giants still went on to claim victory.

They followed up that intense game with another big win the following night thanks in large part to Chapman's efforts at the plate. He had three hits and four runs batted in for the Giants as he also hit two homers. It was a defiant performance in light of his potential suspension and was exactly what San Francisco needed from its leader.

The series sweep of the Rockies was exactly what the Giants had to do as they keep their hopes for a playoff berth alive. With everything the team has been through it is pretty remarkable that they still have a feasible shot at making the playoffs.

They cannot take their foot off the gas at all for the rest of this season as they are still four games behind the New York Mets for the final Wild Card spot, but with all of the momentum they have it is not impossible that they could ride this wave of good vibes into October.

Chapman's resilient performance is surely going to inspire the team even further as it seems the whole brawl episode did bring the team closer together with teammates sticking up for other teammates and the team still coming out on top.
