The SF Giants seemingly hit a new low on the season with their 8-0 loss to the Washington Nationals on Sunday. As the team looks to rebound, here are some new nuggets as the team prepares for the San Diego Padres.

SF Giants news: Eldridge knocking door down, boos at Oracle, Padres red hot

Eldridge knocking door down

It is no secret that San Francisco's top prospect, first baseman Bryce Eldridge, has been knocking on the door as of late in Triple-A. Eldridge hit yet another home run over the weekend, bringing his total in Triple-A to 12 and his total on the year between Double-A and Triple-A to 19.

While Buster Posey has made clear he does not want to rush him up, and even if Oracle Park's dimensions may be rough on him, the Giants may have no choice but to call him up soon with how he has looked as of late.

In a season that essentially feels lost, why not get fans at least a little bit excited about something by calling Eldridge up.

Boo birds at Oracle

Speaking of a lost season, the boo birds came out on Sunday during the Giants' embarrassing loss to the Nationals. No, these were not seagulls disappointed by a lack of scraps in the bleachers, these were Giants fans clearly fed up with the team's poor play.

It felt like a low point when the team lost a series to the Chicago White Sox. It felt like a low point when they got swept at home by the Pittsburgh Pirates. This feels like another low point. The Giants are doing the limbo in the worst way possible.

The team has simply been bad for a while now, really ever since the Devers trade, so it should not come as a huge shock that they are getting booed at home even if that is a rarity.

Padres red hot

With the Giants headed south, the Padres have gone in the complete opposite direction. They are 14-8 since the All-Star Game and made a lot of additions at the trade deadline.

The Giants are not even really chasing San Diego in the NL Wild Card race anymore because the Padres are now comfortably in the second Wild Card spot and are only two games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.

Meanwhile, the New York Mets have been in freefall and currently hold the third Wild Card spot. Yet, with how the Giants look right now it seems futile to even be thinking about the playoffs even if they are only four games back of New York.

It is a rough time for the Giants to have to face a hot team like the Padres, but maybe they can pick themselves up and dust themselves off before taking them on later tonight.
