The Eugene Emeralds have been on a tear in the second half. On Friday, the SF Giants' High-A affiliate secured a playoff spot after clinching the best record in the Northwest League in the second half of the season.

The Emeralds had a convincing 10-4 victory over the Everett AquaSox. Nate Furman and Parks Harber had four hits apiece. Both players also added two home runs to help the Emeralds get the win.

In the second half of the year, the Emeralds have a 42-16 record, which leads the Northwest League by a wide margin. The Vancouver Canadians are second with a 33-25 record. That said, their .569 winning percentage is substantially lower than the Emeralds' .724 winning percentage.

This is quite the contrast for Eugene from the first half. In the first half of the year, the Emeralds were in the middle of the pack, with a 32-34 record.

The roster looks a lot different than it did earlier in the year, too. Of course, James Tibbs III was included in the trade with the Boston Red Sox to acquire Rafael Devers. Bo Davidson and Scott Bandura earned a promotion to Double-A in the middle of July.

The Emeralds have received a boost from San Jose's roster. Jakob Christian, Drew Cavanaugh, and Maui Ahuna were among the names to move up from Low-A during this season. Cavanaugh has since moved up to Double-A.

Eugene's lineup has a nice dynamic. Charlie Szykowny has been on a tear at the plate at the plate lately. Parks Harber and Nate Furman have provided a jolt to the lineup. Harber was one of the four players to come over in the trade that sent Camilo Doval to the New York Yankees, whereas Furman is on a rehab assignment.

The pitching staff is second in the Northwest League with a 4.42 ERA. The rotation has been led by Josh Bostick, Dylan Carmouche, and Cesar Perdomo. More recently, Greg Farone has joined the group from San Jose.

There have been a lot of promising stories in the Giants' lower affiliates, both in terms of how teams are playing and how individual prospects are performing. Eugene's second-half surge seems to be the next in line.
