Baseball Reference released their latest World Series odds and the SF Giants did not crack the top ten. It definitely qualifies as an egregious snub but also shows how silly it is to look at the odds so early in the season.

SF Giants snubbed in latest World Series odds

These odds were updated a few days ago so the numbers have likely shifted a bit especially after the Giants lost two games in a row to the San Diego Padres, but the Giants were ranked as having the eleventh-best chance to win the World Series at 3.6 percent.

In comparison, the Los Angeles Dodgers were given the ninth-best odds at 5.3 percent and the Padres had the seventh-best odds at 6 percent.

In a bit of a surprise, the two teams with the best odds were the Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers. This is probably due to the fact that both teams play in weaker divisions so the likelihood that they make the playoffs is higher than a team like the Giants who play in the very competitive National League West.

The Giants have not been completely ignored by the prognosticators so far this season. Their solid start to the season has made them jump up the power rankings at times which shows that some people are starting to take notice of what the team is doing.

Nonetheless, putting too much stock in the odds at this stage of the season is downright silly. Giants fans know how quickly things can change and how often the "experts" can be wrong. Not once were the Giants considered favorites during any of their three World Series runs last decade which shows just how much people know.

Obviously, winning a World Series takes a lot of things going a team's way. The first step is first for the Giants and that is making the playoffs. It will not be an east task considering there are three other strong teams in their division.

Yet, if the Giants can find a way to scratch and claw their way into October baseball, then we know you can throw all of the odds out of the window because anything can happen in the playoffs. President of baseball operations Buster Posey certainly knows this which is why he has not been shy about reminding players what the ultimate goal is.

The Giants are almost certainly not looking at rankings like these, but if they were perhaps they could use it as some motivational fuel as they try to go out and prove everyone wrong.
