The SF Giants got their first win of the season, and manager Tony Vitello's first win, last night against the San Diego Padres with a lineup that felt a little bit random with shortstop Willy Adames batting leadoff and Luis Arraez, a guy known more for his contact rather than his power, batting cleanup.
It worked though as the Giants scored a whopping three runs to beat the Padres 3-2 thanks in large part to a great Landen Roupp start even if things did get a bit dicey in the ninth inning. The Giants are going to trot out the same lineup for Tuesday night's contest as well.
SF Giants roll with same lineup that got them first win of 2026
If it ain't broke, don't fix it...even if it still looks a bit weird.
Here is what the lineup will look like as the Giants take on right-handed Padres starter Germán Márquez:
1. SS Willy Adames (R)
2. DH Rafael Devers (L)
3. LF Heliot Ramos (R)
4. 2B Luis Arraez (L)
5. 3B Matt Chapman (R)
6. RF Jung Hoo Lee (L)
7. CF Harrison Bader (R)
8. C Patrick Bailey (S)
9. 1B Casey Schmitt (R)
Ironically, the runs on Monday night were driven in by the bottom of the order which was the most similar to the team's first three games. Bader hit a home run and Bailey and Schmitt accounted for the other two runs batted in so maybe that's where the real thump of the lineup lies right now.
Some Giants hitters have had a lot of success against Márquez who has spent many years with the Colorado Rockies. Both Chapman and Adames have three home runs off him and Ramos and Bader have taken him deep as well so maybe this is a matchup that will set up nicely for the Giants.
On the pitching side, Logan Webb will take the ball looking to redeem himself after a rough outing against the New York Yankees on Opening night last Wednesday. He gave up seven earned runs in five innings of work and Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow theorized that he may have been tipping his pitches.
If he was, hopefully he has cleaned that issue up and can look like his normal self against a stout Padres lineup.
The Giants have really struggled against their division the last few years so to win tonight and get a series win against an NL west rival would really set the tone for the new season.
