With the MLB draft and trade deadline now in the rearview mirror, MLB Pipeline published their updated farm system rankings. The SF Giants saw a notable jump, moving up to No. 18 on the list.

The writers at MLB Pipeline gave a promising update on where the Giants' system is at:

"The most improved system since our March rankings -- up 10 spots from No. 28 -- the Giants are loaded with young talent and poised to continue to climb."

With these rankings, the top-100 prospects tend to do a lot of the heavy lifting. For now, Bryce Eldridge remains the only Giants prospect on the top-100 list. He currently ranks as the No. 13 prospect in baseball.

Depth is important as well, and the Giants have some intriguing players behind Eldridge, with some prospects potentially appearing on some of the top-100 prospect lists as soon as this offseason. Josuar Gonzalez, Jhonny Level, Argenis Cayama, Keyner Martinez, Alberto Laroche, Bo Davidson, and Dakota Jordan all got shoutouts from MLB Pipeline.

Buster Posey has already shown a knack for making the big moves. This includes signing Willy Adames to a seven-year deal and trading for Rafael Devers. Undoubtedly, the Giants' top front office executive can connect with players on a different level due to his long and decorated career.

At the end of the day, his biggest challenge will be putting together a farm system that feeds the major league roster. The ownership group has invested a lot of money into players like Adames, Devers, Matt Chapman, and Jung Hoo Lee.

They cannot fix every hole on the roster through free agency or trades. They need the farm system to produce talent. That is an area they have struggled with over the past 15 years. Not surprisingly, the club has only made one playoff appearance since 2017.

The Giants' farm system leans on the younger side, with much of the talent at the lower levels. The Dominican Summer League clubs, Arizona Complex League Giants, and San Jose Giants have all thrived this year. It may take some time before some of those players reach the majors. In the meantime, Bryce Eldridge continues to hit for power in Triple-A and is only one phone call away. It does like the Giants are heading in the right direction on this front.
