The SF Giants will look a little bit different in the final two months of the year. They completed three trades right before the MLB trade deadline, with Tyler Rogers, Camilo Doval, and Mike Yastrzemski joining new teams.
Summarizing the three trades the SF Giants made at the 2025 MLB trade deadline
There was a lot of activity in the minutes leading up to the trade deadline, so we have you covered with the details. We will grade the trades later this weekend.
1. Tyler Rogers to the New York Mets for three prospects
The first trade was one that signaled a clear direction from the front office. Tyler Rogers was shipped to the New York Mets. It would have been hard to justify this as anything more than a sell move. If the Giants were going to compete for a playoff spot, they would need Rogers in the bullpen.
The Giants got as pretty nice return, including a pair of pitchers in José Butto and Blade Tidwell as well as outfielder Drew Gilbert. The Giants forfeited a handful of picks lately after due to the qualifying offer rules. In a sense, they added a pair of high picks as Gilbert and Tidwell were selected in the first-and-second-round in 2022.
Butto and Tidwell are now on the Giants' 40-man roster. Butto is out of minor league options. Gilbert is eligible for the Rule 5 draft this winter, so there is a good chance he is added to the roster at some point before then.
2. Camilo Doval traded to the New York Yankees in exchange for four prospects
With Tyler Rogers out of the picture, it only made sense for move Camilo Doval. Doval has two years of team control remaining after this season. However, reliever valuation is volatile, so it is best to get out in front of it.
The Yankees acquired Doval in exchange for four prospects. This includes catcher/infielder Jesus Rodriguez, corner infielder Parks Harber, and a pair of pitchers in Trystan Vrieling and Carlos De La Rosa.
3. Mike Yastrzemski traded to the Kansas City Royals for one prospect
The final trade of the deadline for San Francisco came in right before the buzzer. They shipped veteran outfielder Mike Yastrzemski to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for pitching prospect Yunior Marte. This is not the same Yunior Marte who pitched for the Giants not that long ago.
