Spring training is just a few weeks away but the SF Giants have still yet to announce their coaching staff. It is fairly bizarre that a formal announcement has not come out yet but clearly they are still sorting things out behind the scenes.
Right now if you visit the Giants' coaching staff page on their website, the only name is Tony Vitello as manager. We know Vitello can wear a lot of hats, but expecting him to manage and coach first and third base is asking a lot of him.
In all seriousness though, even Giants beat writers are acknowledging the strangeness of this situation. Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle shared the following about the coaching staff:
You may be unsurprised to learn that we asked yet again about the coaching staff (@justdelossantos this time!) and the Giants are still not quite ready to announce it. I’ve never been so fascinated about a pending coaching staff announcement at this point.

SF Giants have still yet to announce their coaching staff with spring training approaching
Announcing a coaching staff should have pretty much been step one after the Giants hired Vitello. While many of the names that will comprise the staff have already been reported, it seems the Giants may be trying to work out the exact titles or exact roles.
We know Ron Washington is set to serve as an infield coach and he will have his work cut out for him after the Giants added Luis Arraez who is a little rough around the edges at second base to put it lightly. Washington may also serve as third base coach like he did with the Atlanta Braves.
Justin Meccage is set to be the pitching coach with Frank Anderson, who was Vitello's pitching coach at the University of Tennessee, also reportedly serving in some sort of pitching instructor role. Jesse Chavez will be the bullpen coach.
Hunter Mense came over from the Toronto Blue Jays and will be the hitting coach. Oscar Bernard will be one of the few holdovers from the previous staff as an assistant hitting coach.
Also, Jayce Tingler will be a bench coach or serve in an associate manager capacity which is not a surprise given his close relationship with Vitello.
But we have not heard for sure who will serve as first base coach and third base coach which is a bit odd.
Obviously, they will announce all these coaches and their official titles at some point, it is just a bit absurd that it has taken this long.
The Giants are clearly counting on this staff to raise the level of the team. The Giants made some solid additions this offseason, but if the coaching staff cannot elevate the players then it will probably be another year of mediocrity for the Giants.
