SF Giants are vindicated as Dalton Rushing antagonizes yet another fanbase

This guy stinks.

If Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Dalton Rushing is making a bid to be the most hated MLB player by the end of April, then he’s doing a pretty good job of it. After accusing the Colorado Rockies of cheating and saying something obscene when SF Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee was injured he has now angered yet another fanbase.

Fans on social media read Rushing’s lips again on Sunday in a game between the Dodgers and Chicago Cubs in Los Angeles and he appeared to say something vulgar and disparaging about the body shape of Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya after Amaya stole second base.

Dalton Rushing's big mouth gets him into trouble yet again

Who knows what Rushing’s excuse will be this time or if he will even be asked about it, but for a rookie to be behaving this way expect him to receive several more fastballs to the ribs just like the one Logan Webb sent his way last week. After yet another lip-read moment the Giants are totally vindicated for going after Rushing. It would be one thing if it was an isolated incident but this guy just seemingly can’t stop running his mouth.

Legendary Giants shortstop Rich Aurilia spoke about Rushing on KNBR last week and he expressed a sentiment probably felt by many Giants, and frankly baseball, fans:

“What happened to the days when rookies got called up and they just kept their mouth shut? They were seen and not heard and just played the game. And it’s not like that anymore.”

He’s right. At least when rookie Drew Gilbert was called up last year and started acting crazy he was just being fun and silly with his own teammates. He wasn’t trying to choke players on the other team or doing anything untoward or disparaging to opponents.

Rushing has seemingly decided to just turn heel entirely and embrace his villainhood. Why not? He plays for the Evil Empire down south so if he’s going to be a stormtrooper why not play the part?

At least he gives Giants fans a fun new villain to despise. Yasiel Puig is off in Canada and Max Muncy, while still very annoying, is not quite as insufferable now that Madison Bumgarner is no longer with the Giants.

Rushing may be the perfect catalyst to reignite the fuse that has kept the Giants-Dodgers rivalry alive for so long. He’s created bad PR for himself in three consecutive series so by the time the Dodgers and Giants face one another in a few weeks he may have ticked off half the league. Maybe that's exactly what he wants.
