SF Giants are not winning much in 2026, except for one key area

The SF Giants are slumping toward a potential 100-loss season, but they are winning in one key area. Baseball America reported that their combined record in the minors is the best in baseball.

This should not come as a surprise, as they are winning at every level. Outside of Triple-A, the only level where they have not clinched a playoff spot was in the Arizona Complex League. That team finished with a 34-26 record, but fell shy of reaching the postseason.

That roster was deadlined by Josuar Gonzalez and Luis Hernández. It is fair to say that there were some pretty lofty expectations given the talent on the roster.

Nevertheless, Gonzalez and Hernández have moved up to the California League, where they hope to help the San Jose Giants win another title in as many years. In particular, Gonzalez has quickly become a must-watch player in the Giants organization. It seems like he is doing something incredible every game.

San Jose has already punched a ticket to the playoffs after securing a first-half title. They have not taken their foot off the gas, as they lead the league with a 34-21 record in the second half.

SF Giants minor league affiliates will be filled with playoff appearances in 2026

Going up north, the Eugene Emeralds have also clinched a spot in the Northwest League Championship Series. They dominated the league in the first half and continue to excel in the second half despite losing some key players to promotions. Gavin Kilen, Trevor Cohen, and Dakota Jordan have been among those promoted.

Of course, the Richmond Flying Squirrels got off to a torrid pace in the first half. They have slowed down in the second half, largely due to the number of players who have been promoted over the past couple of months. Parks Harber, Scott Bandura, Bo Davidson, Turner Hill, Drew Cavanaugh, and Jonah Cox all began the year with Richmond and have since been promoted. Hill, Cavanaugh, and Cox have all made their debut with the Giants.

The Sacramento River Cats have been on the receiving end of all those promotions. The offense and pitching staff have been similarly strong. While they may fall shy of a playoff spot, they have been one of the best teams in the Pacific Coast League.

To top it all off, the Dominican Summer League (DSL) Giants Black reached the postseason but fell to the DSL Padres. That affiliate was headlined by recent trade acquisition Joniel Hernandez, and one of the to signings in the 2025 class, Djean Macares.

It has been a down year for the Giants, but the minor league affiliates have been among the best in the minors. Interestingly, they have been more aggressive in rewarding performance this year, so the rosters are not full of players who are above the level of competition. They are talented squads.
