Three Takeaways From The SF Giants Series Against The Baltimore Orioles
3. Injuries could lead the SF Giants to promote more young talent
As mentioned, the Giants depth at starting pitcher has been tested in a big way this season, with struggles from the likes of Anthony DeSclafani and Sean Manea, and now that Alex Wood has officially headed to the injured list, it may open up the Giants to promote one of the biggest stars in the minor leagues.
Many have tabbed Kyle Harrison (3.55 ERA in 12 starts over 38 innings with 66 strikeouts) to make his Major League debut sometime in 2023, and with proven success from Patrick Bailey and Casey Schmitt already, the team may feel emboldened to trust another standout in Triple-A.
While it may not be Harrison, the Giants need to try something beyond DeSclafani, Webb and Cobb, and if they can find another young starter for the future, this is a team that could not only find success in 2023, but beyond that as well.
