Proposed SF Giants trade would ship yet another outfielder to Seattle Mariners

This would be far from the first SF Giants swap with the Mariners.

The SF Giants could be in a position where they sell at the trade deadline. One proposed trade would send outfielder Michael Conforto and closer Camilo Doval to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for several young prospects.

This trade proposal comes courtesy of our friends at Sodo Mojo, the FanSided site that covers the Seattle Mariners. Christopher O'Day proposes a trade where the Giants would send Conforto and Doval to the Mariners in exchange for Dominic Canzone, Tai Peete, and Walter Ford.

Would this trade be beneficial for the Giants?

First off, some fans may be rolling their eyes thinking, 'Another trade with the Mariners?' The Giants have made several swaps with the Mariners during Farhan Zaidi's tenure, most notably the trade earlier this year that sent Mitch Haniger and Anthony DeSclafani to the Mariners in exchange for starting pitcher Robbie Ray.

We know that these two front offices know how to tango, but would this be a dance with the devil in the pale moonlight for the Giants?

If the Giants were to make this trade, it would be a bit of a white flag from the front office. The Giants would be giving up their closer in Doval who has struggled but has still been solid for them over the course of his career as well as Conforto who has been solid offensively for the team with 10 home runs and 39 RBI.

This would not be a complete "everything must go" sale for the Giants, though. The team could plug Luis Matos into a corner outfield spot and pick from several qualified relievers (and one ex-reliever) to step into the closer role.

But it would certainly signal to the team that the front office did not believe in them enough to go out and make "win-now additions." Canzone is a lesser version of Conforto who could be a respectable 4th outfielder. Tai Peete would be a massive get for the Giants as the shortstop is the 8th best prospect in Seattle's organization according to MLB.com. Ford is a bonus as a 19 year old pitching prospect.

Honestly, the Giants should say yes to this proposed deal even if it was just for Peete. That alone would be worth it as they would be getting something for Conforto before he hits free agency and may be getting a closer off their hands who could be on the decline.

In all, this proposed trade would be amazing for the Giants. Again, we must emphasize that it is just a proposal made by a fellow writer and is not backed up by reporting. But it would not be too hard to imagine the Giants and Mariners making another deal before the trade deadline, especially one that involves either Doval or Conforto.
