Logan Porter's status on the waiver wire has been resolved. The multi-positional catcher cleared waivers, rejected a minor league assignment, and re-signed with the SF Giants on a minor league deal, per the team's transaction log.

Players and teams pursue this approach sometimes. It could be that Porter wanted to include an opt-out in his contract or something of that nature. Nevertheless, he is back with the organization, and has been assigned to the Sacramento River Cats.
The Giants added Porter to the active roster in early June, when Patrick Bailey was placed on the injured list with a neck strain. The organization's catching depth had been stretched thin at that point. Bailey was out, Sam Huff was dealing with a back ailment, and Max Stassi was on the injured list.
Porter filled in for the Giants, and Andrew Knizner assumed the everyday role behind the plate while Bailey was out. Porter appeared in four games, collecting two hits in seven at-bats before being optioned back to Triple-A in the middle of June.
The multi-positional catcher did make an appearance on the mound as well. He allowed one earned run in one inning of work in an 11-5 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 14.
Overall, the right-handed bat seven hits in 38 career at-bats split across two seasons between the Giants and Kansas City Royals. His career numbers in Triple-A are much better. He has a .762 OPS with 14.8 percent walk rate, 25.2 strikeout rate, and .147 ISO across four minor league seasons at that level. This includes a .668 OPS in 194 plate appearances with Sacramento this season.
Porter has seen the bulk of his time behind the plate as a pro, but he continues to get reps at first base, too. All of the sudden, the Giants are seemingly flush with catching options in the upper minors.
The Richmond Flying Squirrels still have a young contingent of Adrián Sugastey and Onil Perez behind the plate. However, the River Cats have some veteran options. Max Stassi remains on the injured list, but Austin Barnes recently joined the club and Sam Huff has begun a rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League.
