MLB just issued a warning to SF Giants over thrust-themed celebrations

They are cracking down.

The SF Giants have made headlines with their recent outfield thrusting celebration routine. It seems MLB is starting to crack down on the thrust though as it suspended Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Abner Uribe one game for a thrust-like motion he directed at the St. Louis Cardinals' dugout in a recent game.

Uribe is appealing the suspension, but perhaps this is a shot across the bow from MLB to the Giants, namely Drew Gilbert and Harrison Bader, warning them to tread carefully going forward.

This all began when Gilbert, Bader, and poor Jung Hoo Lee, who was just caught in the middle of it all, performed a communal thrust after a victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers. It was reported that they were warned to cut it out after that even though manager Tony Vitello subtly broke his own rules he was espousing on the matter.

So they improvised and went with a respectful bow after the next win, but the thrust did not go away forever.

It came back in the series against the Athletics and then came back with a vengeance in the series against the Chicago White Sox when they recreated a famous Key and Peele sketch and the next day did another thrust-themed celebration.

Now, it’s important to note that none of these thrusts by the Giants have been aimed at the opponent. This has merely been intra-team thrusting which MLB may not have as much of a problem with. Still, the Uribe suspension may at least serve as a warning to the Giants.

With how bad the Giants have been, they may never thrust again

Yet, maybe the Giants have already found a workaround to this by deciding to never win another game. It’s an ingenious solution, really. If you never win, you can never do a thrust celebration, and therefore you cannot get in trouble. It’s three-dimensional chess.

The Giants have not won since Sunday against the White Sox. They are blowing games in almost comical fashion now so we may not see the thrust ever again at this rate.

While the thrusting can be fun, some old school baseball types like Will Clark have spoken out against it and they have a point considering the team is 13 games below .500. Maybe if you have a winning record you can be doing stuff like that but when the team stinks it just doesn’t quite hit the same.

If the Giants do make the radical choice to win another game this season and Gilbert is out there, we will have to see what the outfielders do. If they thrust respectfully maybe they’ll be allowed to continue but MLB is certainly watching.
