It’s obviously been a tough year for the SF Giants so there’s no need to worry about them being overrepresented in the All-Star Game on July 14 in Philadelphia. Still, they will at least have one representative and they have a few guys who are deserving. The official results will be announced on Saturday, July 4.

MLB insider Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic recently made his prediction for the All-Star Game rosters for both the National League and American League. For the Giants he had one pretty obvious inclusion, one surprise inclusion, and one snub.

Ken Rosenthal's All-Star predictions had a bit of everything for the Giants

Obvious

Rosenthal predicts that Luis Arraez will be an All-Star at second base and not only that, he predicts he will be the starter. That would be well-deserved since Arraez has been great both offensively and defensively this season.

He is hitting .326/.361/.463 with four home runs and 32 runs batted in. Those are pretty typical offensive numbers for him but whats really impressive is the fact that he’s been so good defensively and grades out as the best defenders in baseball.

He may very well be traded a few weeks after the All-Star Game but it will at least be cool to see him represent the Giants if he does make it.

Surprise

Rosenthal threw in a bit of a surprise by having Casey Schmitt make the team as a third baseman. He doesn’t have him as the starter and even though third base is his natural position he’s played all over the diamond this year.

Schmitt has been great, though. He’s hitting .278/.304/.489 with 16 homers and 43 runs batted in. He is definitely deserving of an All-Star nod but it wouldn’t be surprising if he gets excluded either.

Snub

Rosenthal does not include Jung Hoo Lee on the roster in his prediction. In fact, he doesn’t even include him as a “notable omission” which may be even more egregious.

Lee is having his best career season hitting .319/.350/.454 with five homers and 32 runs batted in. The NL has a lot of great outfielders so it would be tough for Lee to be a starter but maybe he could at least crack the bench or make it in as an alternate.

We’ll see who makes the roster and who doesn’t but at least there are some Giants having really good individual seasons amidst the team’s struggles.
