Is this a surprise to anyone?

The All-Star Game is coming up soon and will be played a little less than a month from now in Philadelphia. Based on early fan voting, the SF Giants probably won’t have a starter in the game which is not a huge shock.

The latest All-Star fan voting results show that no Giants players are really all that close to making the team. The closest is second baseman Luis Arraez who is in fifth place among all National League second basemen but outside of him it’s tough to see any Giants being able to close the gap in the voting.

Jung Hoo Lee is probably the most deserving All-Star candidate on the team after Arraez and he’s currently in 20th place among NL outfielders. Maybe that will change in the coming weeks but with how bad the Giants have been fan morale probably isn’t high enough to mount a spirited All-Star push.

2026 has been a big disappointment for San Francisco. The Giants are currently at 29-43 on the season and any hopes of making the playoffs, or frankly even getting back to .500, feel fairly fanciful.

Arraez may be an All-Star and a likely trade candidate

The latest rumors suggest the Giants are open to a fire sale at the trade deadline so there’s a decent chance they might just blow the whole thing up which may not be the worst thing in the world.

It’s a shame Arraez is likely to be traded since he has been one of the most fun players to watch this season with his antics at the plate and how he hardly ever strikes out. He’s hitting .319/.352/.435 on the season and it’s been amazing to watch how he is such a tough out for opponents.

Not only that, but he’s been amazing defensively. It’s clear that infield coach Ron Washington’s influence has been huge as Arraez entered the season with everyone thinking he would be a defensive liability at second base and now he’s a legitimate Gold Glove candidate.

If the Giants were having a good year then maybe there would be more love for Arraez and Lee. No matter what, the Giants will at least get one All-Star since there’s a rule that every MLB team will have one player on the roster. Arraez is probably the favorite right now if he doesn’t get voted in so at least he seems likely to get a little love for how well he’s done this year.
