SF Giants ace Logan Webb is an All-Star and is currently taking part in the All-Star Game festivities in Philadelphia. While he recently deleted his X account, he made a change to his Instagram account that got some people on social media talking.

His profile picture is now him alongside Atlanta Braves ace Chris Sale. Is this Webb’s way of subtly hinting that he wants to be traded to Atlanta? Probably not, but it still makes for an interesting thought exercise.

President of baseball operations Buster Posey has made it pretty clear that he is not interested in trading Webb away. Posey is usually pretty honest in his public comments so it’s not a bad idea to take him at his word, but there’s always a chance he could be blown away by an offer or is just playing hard to get.

Webb himself was asked about Posey saying he was not for sale and he said he was "flattered," but there has to be some part of him that wishes he was playing for a contender right now.

Webb's best path back to playoffs probably isn't with the Giants

The three-time All-Star hasn’t made it to the playoffs since 2021. He’s been part of mediocre teams since then until this season which has been decidedly below average. He knows at this point the front office doesn’t invest in pitching which is probably why he advocated so strongly for the team to take Jackson Flora so he might have some sort of help in the rotation eventually.

While he’s made it clear he likes being with the Giants, at some point he may decide that he wants to play for a real contender. Whether the Giants grant him that wish by trading him or whether he decides to go somewhere else after he becomes a free agent remains to be seen.

The Giants could certainly get a decent haul for him in a trade. In a hypothetical trade with Atlanta, a team that could certainly use a boost to the pitching staff as it tries to fend off the Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Marlins in the National League East, the Braves would probably be willing to part ways with several top prospects. Could San Francisco say no to a haul of J.R. Ritchie, Owen Murphy, and Diego Tornes with maybe a more established big league player thrown in for good measure?

It’s highly unlikely the Giants will trade Webb and the profile picture change is almost certainly just to show he's at the All-Star Game, but with how bad this season has gone for San Francisco everything should be on the table and if the Giants get blown away by an offer for Webb it may be tough to say no.
