The SF Giants got off to a red-hot start against the New York Yankees in Friday's rain-shortened victory. Center fielder Jung Hoo Lee got the scoring started with a three-run home run and the Korean call of his homer is awesome.
The call can be viewed on social media here. The excitement in the voices of the announcers is palpable after Lee drove the ball out to right field as it pierced through the rain and left the ballpark. It was an impressive swing of the bat made even cooler by a great call from the announcers.
In San Francisco's walk-off victory against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday the Korean call of both Lee's double and Mike Yastrzemski's walk-off Splash Hit are also awesome to listen to. Nothing is better than a Duane Kuiper home run call, but it is cool to hear the same home run called in a different language with equal excitement and energy.
Korean calls of SF Giants home runs are amazing to listen to
Lee has been on a tear at the plate recently. Going into the series against the Yankees he was already looking very strong, but his impressive swing in the top of the 1st inning gave him his first home run on the season. Power is not a huge part of Lee's game, but he can definitely run into one every now and again if he gets a good pitch to hit.
The former KBO standout seems to be thriving in the No. 3 spot of the order which is where he usually batted when he was in Korea. Perhaps that is why we are seeing him build upon his injury-shortened rookie season when he was mainly used as the leadoff hitter.
If the Giants are going to have success this season, they are going to need Lee to have a good year. The team gave him a $113 million contract hoping he could be a star player for the team and he is finally beginning to look like the player they thought they were getting.
Let's hope there are many more exciting and energetic Korean calls of Jung Hoo Lee doing great things on the baseball field for the Giants going forward.
