The Arizona Fall League is currently ongoing and some SF Giants prospects like Dakota Jordan have stood out thus far. Another prospect who has had a very nice showing is infielder Kaeden Kent who is quickly making a name for himself in the desert.

Kent was acquired in the Heliot Ramos trade with the New York Yankees at the trade deadline. He is indeed the son of Jeff Kent and while that comes with some high expectations especially since Kent was just inducted into the Hall of Fame last year, the younger Kent knows that he can only be his own player and can’t try to live up to whatever his father did.

He’s doing quite well in the AFL thus far as he has six hits in 14 at-bats including a double, two runs batted in, and a stolen base. He’s struck out twice and has yet to draw a walk. That one double was actually a walk-off hit so he's proving he can come up in the clutch.

Kent also performed well for the Giants after being traded. He was dealing with an injury that caused him to miss some time, which is also why he is in the AFL to make up for some of that missed time, but when he was out there for the High-A Eugene Emeralds he hit .267/.283/.489 with two home runs and five runs batted in.

Not only that, but Kent earned a promotion up to Double-A Richmond for the playoffs and he hit a three-run homer. It seems like there is a very good chance he starts next season in Double-A and after seeing a guy like Jonah Cox get promoted to the big leagues straight from Double-A in 2026, if Kent gets red-hot he could be a candidate for promotion at some point.

Kaeden Kent may have an uphill battle to make the Giants

The one thing working against Kent is the fact that the Giants already have a lot of middle infield depth in the minor league system. Gavin Kilen, the team’s 2025 first-round draft pick, is ahead of him on the depth chart and the team has their younger shortstops working through the minors so it may be tough for Kent to break through amongst that group.

Still, last season proved how important it is for a team to have organization depth with all the injuries San Francisco endured so no matter what Kent is a good guy to have down in the minors who seems like he could develop into a solid second baseman or utility man.

The results in the AFL are promising for Kent so one hopes he can build upon that and take whatever momentum he gets from it and can carry it over into next season for the Giants.
