How every SF Giants player dealt at the trade deadline is faring one week later

The MLB trade deadline was last Monday and the SF Giants were very active. They traded six players who were a very big part of the big league team this season and got a number of intriguing prospects in return.

It’s just been a week, but it’s worth checking in on all of the Giants who were traded to see how they are faring with their new squads so far.

How are all 6 Giants who were traded doing with their new teams?

Tyler Mahle

The first trade the Giants made ahead of the deadline was sending Tyler Mahle to the Atlanta Braves. A change of scenery may have been just what he needed as he had a great first start against the New York Yankees, pitching six scoreless innings while striking out nine batters. How ironic would it be if he turns into an ace with Atlanta.

Luis Arraez

It stung for the Giants to trade second baseman Luis Arraez to the Philadelphia Phillies, but it made sense given the fact that he’s a pending free agent.

He made a phenomenal first impression in Philly his first few games, but he has cooled off his last few as he went 0-for-6 on Sunday and then 0-for-5 on Monday which is very uncharacteristic. 

He’s hitting .219/.235/.375 with the Phillies and they’ll be hoping they get more of the Arraez they first saw going forward.

Caleb Kilian

The Giants also threw reliever Caleb Kilian into the trade with the Phillies and he gave up five earned runs in 3 and 1/3 innings of work before landing on the IL with an oblique injury and will reportedly be out for a while.

Arraez was obviously the centerpiece of that trade for Philadelphia but his recent struggles and Kilian’s injury definitely makes the trade look a bit worse than it did initially.

Robbie Ray

San Francisco traded Robbie Ray to the NL West rival San Diego Padres and his first start with his new team was a bit of a struggle as he went five innings and allowed four earned runs on five walks and seven hits.

It’s just one start, but the Padres will certainly be hoping for more going forward especially since their other big trade acquisition Casey Mize also struggled in his first start.

Heliot Ramos

New York Yankees fans can be notoriously tough and Heliot Ramos’ struggles so far have really frustrated that irritable fanbase. He has just two hits in 21 plate appearances and has already struggled a bit in the outfield. He’s also had a wardrobe malfunction. 

It’s early, but it is trending similarly to Camilo Doval’s rough tenure with the Yankees.

Erik Miller

The Giants dealt left-handed reliever Erik Miller to the Boston Red Sox in their final deadline deal and he’s been dealing so far. He has not allowed a run in three appearances and has struck out six while only walking one which is a good sign for a guy who can get a “wild hair up his nose” in the parlance of Mike Krukow.

Speaking of Krukow, Miller shared on social media after Krukow’s retirement announcement that early in his career Kruk gave him some encouragement and told him that his stuff was good enough to play at the big league level which stuck with him. Just another example of why Krukow is so amazing.

It’s just been a week so maybe Mahle gives up 10 earned runs in his next start and Ramos hits three home runs tonight and this article ends up looking very short-sighted and silly, but at this particular snapshot in time this is how the Giants dealt at the trade deadline are doing.
