Heliot Ramos' quiet Yankees debut after SF Giants trade features wardrobe malfunction

The trade deadline has come and gone and now SF Giants fans are having to adjust to seeing guys who were in orange and black a week ago in new uniforms. Luis Arraez had a great debut with the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night and Heliot Ramos debuted with the New York Yankees although his first game in pinstripes will be remembered more for his minor wardrobe malfunction than what he did on the field.

Ramos forgot to fully button up his jersey so his midriff was left a little bit exposed.

He went 0-for-4 on the night but Yankees fans won’t get on him too bad just yet since the debut of George Lombard Jr. overshadowed everything else for New York.

While it definitely stings a bit to see Ramos go since he was the first homegrown outfielder the Giants had successfully developed in quite a while, it made sense to trade him right now. The Giants need to start building more for the future and a team like the Yankees were poised to give up some decent prospects for Ramos which is exactly what they did.

It’s going to be interesting to see how Ramos fares under the bright lights of New York. He’s got a fun personality and seems like a good guy in the clubhouse so if he performs well he will be easy to latch onto but if he struggles those notoriously brutal New York fans will eat him alive.

His defense has been improved this year but if he makes some of the embarrassing outfield blunders he made last year in San Francisco the boos are going to come hard and fast.

Will Heliot Ramos end up like Camilo Doval on Yankees?

Not everyone can handle playing in New York. The Giants traded Camilo Coval to the Yankees last year and he crumbled while he was there. New York just got rid of him by trading him to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Will Ramos meet a similar fate? He seems fairly well-equipped to handle the pressure of New York and definitely seemed happy when he found out that he was going to be a Yankee even though he said his mom was a bit worried when she found out about the trade.

A lot of Yankees fans are upset with the team’s deadline and it has nothing to do with Ramos. Many Yankees fans seemed to be fine with that move but their gripes is they feel Brian Cashman did not do enough to address the team’s weaknesses.

If the Yankees don’t make a deep playoff run this year then maybe there will be frustration especially if Ramos underperforms, but he’s not set to be a free agent until after 2029 so there is plenty of time for him to win over fans even if he gets off to a rough start. Let’s just hope that he buttons up that jersey. And he should also be thankful that they changed their policy on beards.
