Former SF Giants slugger Jorge Soler did not spend a ton of time in San Francisco, but that did not stop him from sharing a nice moment with his ex-teammate and current Giants infielder Casey Schmitt in yesterday's spring training game.

The moment occurred in the sixth inning of Sunday's Cactus League game between the Giants and the Los Angeles Angels. Soler made it into third base safely which is where Schmitt was playing and the mighty 6-foot-4 outfielder and designated hitter put his arm around Schmitt and gave him a warm embrace. MLB's Sarah Langs shared the nice moment on social media.

Soler signed with the Giants prior to the 2024 season. He was swayed to join the team by veterans Wilmer Flores and Thairo Estrada. The hope was that he would be a consistent power threat for the Giants as their designated hitter but that did not come to pass.

He did not do terribly for the Giants, slashing .240/.330/.419 with 12 home runs and 40 RBI in 93 games and 392 plate appearances. However, that was not the kind of production they were hoping for from him especially since they ended up using him as their leadoff hitter a lot which was not ideal. They traded him to the Atlanta Braves, a team he had played for previously, before the trade deadline.

During the offseason he was traded to the Angels, a team that has made a habit of collecting former Giants in recent years.

The ultimate failure of San Francisco's Soler experiment last season is what has made the team likely to use multiple players as their DH in 2025 rather than just one player like they did in the first half of last season with Soler. Some Giants have already stood out in spring training as promising DH candidates.

Even though things did not really work out with the Giants, it is nice to see Soler find an opportunity with a new team. His power is unquestioned and he hit some absolute moon shots while he was on the Giants.

It is also nice to see that there is apparently no bad blood between Soler and the Giants after he was traded as evidenced by his and Schmitt's nice embrace. Social media is often terrible but Sarah Langs is one of the few bastions of positivity on there and is always there to remind us that baseball is indeed the best.
