The SF Giants have concrete options at just about every position in the field. One area that remains up in the air is who will be at DH. Team president of baseball operations Buster Posey clarified that point, suggesting that Bob Melvin would rotate options through the DH spot.

Posey joined the Murph and Markus Show on KNBR earlier this week to answer a number of questions. The DH spot was brought up as the Giants have not done anything to address that spot on the roster this winter.

"Talking to Bo-Mel a little bit, I think he likes the flexibility of being able to give some guys a half day off with just the DH. We've got some viable options on the roster that you can move around... It's a spot that you'll rotate some guys in and out."

When last season began, the Giants had Jorge Soler penciled in as the team's DH. In fact, he signed a three-year, $42 million deal to join San Francisco, so the belief was that he would be the DH for the next three seasons.

That last part did not come to fruition as Soler was moved at the deadline in a surprise deal to the Atlanta Braves. Oddly enough, he has already been moved again in a trade to the Los Angeles Angels earlier in the offseason.

The DH spot will look a little different this time around as the Giants are not planning to commit to any one player as the full-time DH. That is the approach that many teams take. There are really only a few options where having a full-time DH even makes sense. You could make the case that Soler fit that criteria.

That is a moot point now. The Giants are preparing for the 2025 season and hoping to use DH as an opportunity to get some bats into the lineup and give veteran players a chance to take a break from the field. They will have several options to use at that spot. Wilmer Flores, LaMonte Wade, Heliot Ramos, Jerar Encarnación, and even Heliot Ramos could take some at-bats at DH.

The Giants could even use the spot to get some at-bats for someone like Marco Luciano. The 2025 season could be a critical year for someone like Luciano and the DH spot could be used to give the Giants more information to make an evaluation.
