Former SF Giants catcher Aramis Garcia has signed a minor league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Garcia did not spend a ton of time with the Giants, but he will remain in the National League West for another season.

Garcia was drafted by the Giants in 2014 and made his MLB debut with the Giants in 2018. He actually hit a home run in his debut with the team and went on to slash .286/.309/.492 with four homers and nine runs batted in across 19 games.

He stayed with the Giants in 2019 and played in 18 games although his numbers dipped as he slashed .143/.217/.310 with two home runs and five runs driven in.

After the Giants designated Garcia for assignment in 2020, he has bounced around from team to team, seeing time with the Athletics, Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, and Diamondbacks.

He played in just two games in Arizona in the 2025 season with just four at-bats. Arizona likely views him as a nice depth piece to have going into the 2026 season.

With all of the former Buster Posey backups who were mentioned as possible head coaching candidates either now or in the future, from Nick Hundley to Curt Casali and even Guillermo Quiroz, it was a bit surprising to not see Garcia's name thrown out there as head coaching candidate.

Maybe in a few years if new manager Tony Vitello doesn't work out we will hear Garcia's name thrown around as a candidate to take over as the skipper of the Giants. It may come down to him and Eli Whiteside.

The Giants have already made a catcher depth signing of their own as they brought back Logan Porter on a minor-league contract. Teams can never have enough catching depth so it does not hurt to load up on catchers.

The Giants are obviously set at catcher going into next year with Gold Glover Patrick Bailey behind the plate, but it remains to be seen who his backup will be.

The Giants are high on Jesus Rodriguez who they acquired in a trade with the New York Yankees but he is a little light on catching experience so it would make sense to bring in another veteran catcher or two to provide some competition in camp.

A reunion with Garcia may not have been in the cards, but maybe the Giants will see him at some point when they play the Diamondbacks in 2026.
