He'd be a perfect fit in the bullpen.

Watching the Milwaukee Brewers sweep the Los Angeles Dodgers, the SF Giants probably couldn’t help but marvel at how good their bullpen was. Guys like Aaron Ashby and Abner Uribe looked so dominant and held onto leads in late games. Lefty JoJo Romero was superb as well and the Giants should be all over him in the offseason.

Romero pitched two scoreless innings for Milwaukee in Game 4 and struck out three batters. That included Shohei Ohtani who he struck out to start off the bottom of the fifth and Max Muncy who he struck out to end the bottom of the sixth.

If you want to make a good impression to the Giants organization, striking out both of those guys to help eliminate them from the playoffs is a pretty good start. It wasn't the only time he made Ohtani look silly during the series, either. In total he pitched three scoreless innings with five strikeouts in the NLCS.

Romero is 30 years old and has been a solid pitcher for years. He had a 3.36 ERA in 2026 between his time with the Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals. In 2025 he had a 2.07 ERA with St. Louis and he was solid in both 2023 and 2024 as well.

Now he’s going to be a free agent and he seems like he’d be a perfect fit for a Giants bullpen that could use one more lefty arm. The Giants will probably bring back Sam Hentges next season after he had a decent 2026 coming off injury. San Francisco will still need to fill the void left by Erik Miller though after they traded him to the Boston Red Sox.

Giants need a strong lefty in their bullpen

Romero would be an ideal setup man that the Giants can use against lefties late in games. He doesn’t throw absolute gas as his sinker sits in the mid-90’s, but he’s got a good sweeper and when he’s right that two-pitch combo can be pretty lethal.

The Giants may have to pony up a bit if they want to lure him away from a contender or a potential reunion with Milwaukee. The Brewers are known for being pretty frugal in free agency though so they may be content to let him walk especially when they already have an elite lefty like Ashby.

Some fans may want the Giants to make a run at Adrian Morejon, the premium lefty reliever on the market, but Romero is like a much more affordable and realistic version of Morejon. If they could get Romero on a two-year deal in the $5-10 million per year range that could go a long way towards making San Francisco’s bullpen much more reliable next season.
