Only four teams remain in the MLB playoffs. As the SF Giants look to bounce back after a really poor 2026 season, it’s not a bad idea for them to keep an eye on the players in the ALCS and NLCS who will be free agents in the offseason.

They’re going to need to do some work in the offseason if they want to turn things around so let’s take a look at five players still vying for the World Series who would make sense in orange and black next season.

5 players in the ALCS and NLCS Giants should go after

Foster Griffin

The Cleveland Guardians acquired Foster Griffin at the trade deadline from the Washington Nationals and he struggled with the Guardians to the tune of a 5.19 ERA in five starts. Still, he was an All-Star and had a 3.60 ERA on the season in 31 starts.

Griffin has only made two appearances in the playoffs thus far and had a decent outing in Game 1 of the ALCS, allowing two earned runs in four innings of work.

The lefty spent several years in Japan before returning to MLB this season and he seems likely to get a nice pay day. The Giants need to boost the rotation and getting Griffin on a two-year deal would be a smart move.

Kris Bubic

Acquired from the Kansas City Royals by the Los Angeles Dodgers at the trade deadline, Bubic was an All-Star in 2025 and even though injuries have limited him in 2026 he’s still been pretty effective.

He had a 3.76 ERA in 55 innings this season and hasn’t done great in the playoffs this year, allowing an earned run in each of his two outings.

Still, he’s a Cupertino native who went to Stanford so a return to the Bay Area seems like a good idea especially if the Giants can get the 2025 version of him.

Evan Phillips

Last offseason Dodgers reliever Evan Phillips seemed like an interesting reclamation project for the Giants but he ended up re-signing with LA. He’s a free agent again and after a decent season with a 3.46 ERA in 31 outings the Giants should bring him in to stabilize the bullpen a bit.

JoJo Romero

Right now the only lefty who is likely to be in the bullpen next season is Sam Hentges so Milwaukee Brewers reliever JoJo Romero would be a nice addition to San Francisco’s bullpen. He had a 3.36 ERA in the regular season and has looked good in the playoffs so he should be on the Giants’ radar.

Freddy Peralta

While it doesn’t seem likely that the Giants will sign a premier starter to a big contract, maybe they will make a run at Freddy Peralta. After a rough start to the season with the New York Mets, Peralta was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays where he turned things around and posted a 3.25 ERA in ten starts.

Peralta had a good start in the ALDS against the New York Yankees and will take the ball in Game 2 of the ALCS on Tuesday night. He won't come cheap since he's a two-time All-Star, but maybe the Giants pony up and give Logan Webb a co-ace.

Pitching is going to be San Francisco's priority this offseason so watch for them to target some of these pitchers as they try to prevent another 2026.
