SF Giants fans can delight as Dodgers' three-peat hopes end with a sad whimper

A fitting end.

It seemed like the Los Angeles Dodgers might never lose a playoff series again. After winning the World Series in 2024 and 2024, SF Giants fans had reason to fear that this juggernaut of a team simply couldn’t be stopped. Well, the Milwaukee Brewers did a great service to the baseball world by sweeping LA in the NLCS to eliminate the Dodgers and advance to the World Series.

Seemingly everyone had Dodger fatigue. Even Dodgers fans seemed worn out as evidenced by the fact that they didn’t sell out any of the four home playoff games they had this postseason. Last year showed the empty seats as well which really didn’t come as any surprise to Giants fans who know all about the Dodgers fans who show up in the third inning and leave in the sixth to beat the traffic.

The Dodgers are essentially like the Marvel movies at this point. They have a roster of Avengers which is maybe fun at first for a little bit at least to the national baseball media, but after a while it just sort of gets old. Is it really that fun to see the team everyone expects to win the World Series every year go and win it?

At least we don’t have to worry about that this year. Their loss obviously doesn’t mean the Dodgers are cooked. They still have an insane roster and if anything this loss might only motivate them to come back next year and reclaim their crown as the dominant team in the sport.

Giants have a long way to go to catch the Dodgers

The Giants are still light years behind the Dodgers and it really feels like it might take the dawn of a new decade until they can begin to challenge them with any degree of consistency. San Francisco’s farm system is the main hope for the future and a lot of the most promising prospects should be making their debut in 2029 or 2030.

San Francisco dominated the rivalry in the 2010s as evidenced by the three World Series titles. LA has two and a half World Series titles this decade but they still have three more years to get their third legitimate title of the 2020s. Perhaps the pendulum will swing back in favor of the Giants when the 2030s arrive.

It still feels like the Dodgers are an inevitable force, but at least the Brewers have the Giants and every other MLB team a blueprint to show that the Evil Empire in LA is not invincible. They will still probably win the NL West every year the rest of the decade, but if the Giants can take a step forward each year and wait on their prospects to come up and contribute then maybe they can renew the rivalry and actually challenge LA for the first time since 2021.
