The SF Giants are about to start playing spring training games. They have been in camp for some time now, though, and manager Bob Melvin recently called out several players who he feels have shined thus far in camp.

The full interview where Melvin speaks with members of the media in the dugout can be viewed here. The veteran manager has been around for a while so he knows better than anyone that looking good against live batting practice may not mean very much come March and April. However, he did highlight Heliot Ramos as the star of camp last season and he went on to be an All-Star so perhaps he has an eye for these things.

Yet again, Melvin named Ramos when asked about Giants he has been impressed with. In particular, he noted the absolute bomb Ramos hit off of the future Hall-of-Famer Justin Verlander. The manager with roots in the Bay Area also acknowledged the fact that the team's new shortstop, Willy Adames, has looked really good at the plate. He has continued his ownage of Logan Webb, blasting two more home runs against him in live BP so he still likes the way the ball looks coming out of the sinkerballer's hand.

Melvin also made sure to give kudos to Jerar Encarnación and Luis Matos who both looked strong in winter ball and have seemingly carried that success with them to camp. It's good to see that their hard work in the winter seems to be paying off and that Melvin has taken note. They are also two major X-factors for the team going into this season and could determine what kind of year the team has.

The former catcher finished by shouting out the top prospect in the organization, Bryce Eldridge. The manager stated simply: "He can swing the bat." Melvin has already been clear that Eldridge will not break camp with the big league team, but the hope is he impresses enough in spring training and the minors that he becomes undeniable at some point and is able to help the big league club.

It is obviously early and guys seeing the ball well in Scottsdale in February may be very different than the guys hitting the ball well in San Francisco in April, but it is good to see that these players have impressed thus far because the Giants are going to need all of them to perform well if they want to have a good 2025 season.
