The SF Giants are pretty clearly going to be sellers over the course of the next month. There are several obvious trade chips the team has at its disposal like Luis Arraez and Robbie Ray since they are going to be free agents, but the team has some not-so-obvious trade chips as well if they really want to shake things up.
These players probably think they’re pretty safe on the roster right now but they might be in for a rude awakening if they get the call that they’ve been traded in the next month.
5 SF Giants who might be blindsided by a trade
Heliot Ramos
Back from injury and already showcasing his power, outfielder Heliot Ramos could certainly be traded. He’s a former All-Star and has been one of the team’s better hitters in recent years but his poor defense and baserunning leaves a lot to be desired.
There are a number of teams out there who could use a right-handed power-hitting outfielder so Ramos could tick several boxes for teams around MLB. Plus, with Victor Bericoto looking like a mini-version of Ramos right now the Giants may be content to left Bericoto take over in the second half.
Logan Webb
Buster Posey has made it clear that the team has no plans to trade its ace Logan Webb. Maybe he’s being honest or maybe he’s just playing hard to get in order to drive up the asking price.
Either way, trading Webb may seem crazy but it cannot be entirely ruled out after how bad this season has gone. Aces like him do not grow on trees but the Giants would be able to get a pretty nice return for him.
Maybe the Giants will avoid it just because of the message it would send to fans and the clubhouse, but it cannot be ruled out entirely.
Casey Schmitt
It would seem like Casey Schmitt is a player who would stay since he is having a great year and might even be an All-Star, but there’s a chance he could be gone especially if the Giants can’t find any takers for Matt Chapman.
Schmitt has proven he can play pretty much anywhere on the diamond and has hit no matter where they’ve put him. The low walk rate is a bit concerning though so maybe San Francisco decides to sell high thinking he won’t be able to replicate these numbers going forward.
Keaton Winn
The best reliever the Giants have had this year has probably been Keaton Winn. That’s not exactly saying much when talking about a bullpen that has been one of the worst in MLB but Winn could be a legitimate sixth or seventh inning option is a respectable big league bullpen.
It may seem counterintuitive to get rid of one of the team’s best bullpen arms when the bullpen is so bad but if the Giants want to sell they are thinking about 2027 and beyond and don’t care if it means a few more blown leads in the second half of a pointless 2026 season.
Harrison Bader
Given the fact that he’s currently on the IL and hasn’t played very well up to this point, Harrison Bader might think he will stay put at the trade deadline especially since he is under contract for next season too.
But the Giants already have too many outfielders as it is so they may try to thin the herd by trading the veteran even though they’d likely have to eat some money to make that happen.Â
Really no trade would come as a major shock at the deadline other than a Webb one. The Giants have been so bad that change has to be expected at the deadline so don’t be surprised if a few of these players are playing for other teams in a month.Â
