3 teams that should be begging SF Giants for Robbie Ray after recent resurgence

The SF Giants are open to trading pretty much everyone ahead of the trade deadline and it would be a real shock if left-handed starting pitcher Robbie Ray is still with San Francisco after the August 3rd deadline since he’s set to be a free agent after this season.

While Ray was struggling a bit and seemed to be tanking his trade value, he’s turned things around in his last few outings and seems to be in the middle of a resurgence.

On Tuesday night against the Athletics, Ray pitched great. He delivered eight strong innings and did not allow any earned runs and gave up just two hits while walking four and striking out six.

That came after he had what was technically a relief outing in Atlanta against the Braves in which he pitched 6 and 1/3 scoreless innings. His ERA is now down to 3.70 on the season and you can bet there are teams calling the Giants about him right now.

These three teams should be begging the hardest because they could really use some help in the rotation.

3 teams that would love to have Robbie Ray right now

Chicago Cubs

It’s no secret that the Cubs are looking for pitching. Their rotation needs some help and if they want to make a push for the playoffs they are going to need at least one legit starting pitcher.

Ray makes sense for them especially since his career numbers at Wrigley Field have been especially strong. In five starts at Wrigley he has a 1.55 ERA in 29 innings pitched.

He’d give a boost to Chicago’s rotation and maybe the Giants could get a decent prospect or two in a deal.

Detroit Tigers

Ray actually made his big league debut with the Detroit Tigers back in 2014. The Tigers need starting pitching because their rotation has been so banged up.

Even though Detroit has been disappointing and is currently 34-45 on the year, they are still alive in the American League playoff picture.

Plus, Skubal taught Ray how to throw his changeup so they have an exciting relationship which could make Ray’s transition to a new team much easier.

Tampa Bay Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays have been a surprise in the American League East. They’re currently a few games back of the New York Yankees and they could use a proven arm to help them chase down a team with more resources and talent.

The Giants may be smart to trade Ray sooner rather than later so he doesn’t have another dip in production again so if any of these teams comes calling Buster Posey would be smart to get a deal done.
