5 SF Giants likeliest to play in 2028 All-Star Game at Oracle Park

It was officially announced that the SF Giants will host the 2028 All-Star Game at Oracle Park. We’ve heard rumblings about this since last year but it’s nice that we now know for sure that San Francisco will play host to the Midsummer Classic for the first time since 2007 and only the second time in the history of Oracle Park.

It will be interesting to see how things are impacted by the 2028 Olympics which will be in Los Angeles. If MLB players are allowed to play in the Olympics then maybe that means less stars will participate in the All-Star Game given the proximity of the two events on the calendar but the fact that both are in California and a short plane-ride away could help matters.

From a Giants perspective though, it’s interesting to think about which players could represent the Giants in the 2028 All-Star Game. It’s years away and a lot of things can happen between now and then, but let’s take our best shot at guessing who might make it on the National League roster.

5 SF Giants with best shot to make 2028 All-Star Game

Logan Webb

Obviously, starting pitcher Logan Webb is the most logical choice. He’s already made three All-Star Games and he is under contract through the 2028 season so odds are he will still be a Giant.

A bigger question may be whether the Giants trade him in 2028 since he will be a free agent after the season. There’s a chance the Giants extend him before that but unless the product on the field changes then the Giants may end having to deal him.

It would be really cool if Webb has a great first half and is able to start that All-Star Game though. 

Bryce Eldridge

There’s a decent chance that slugger Bryce Eldridge will have emerged fully by 2028 and one can only hope that he is seen as one of the better hitters in the league at that point. There’s also a chance that he could compete in the Home Run Derby and be the first Giant since Barry Bonds to compete in the event.

It would be very fitting if he made his first All-Star Game and it’s at Oracle Park so let’s hope Eldridge can do just that and mash some homers into McCovey Cove during the Derby.

Jung Hoo Lee

There is a chance that Jung Hoo Lee will not be with the Giants in 2028. He has an opt-out in his contract after the 2027 season so if he wants to test free agency then maybe he will sign with another team.

There’s a chance he decides to stay with the Giants though. He’s so beloved by the fanbase and is a solid player so if he has a solid but not spectacular season in 2027 then there’s a good chance he opts in and plays with San Francisco.

He’d have to love getting to play in the All-Star Game where his hero Ichiro Suzuki hit a memorable inside-the-park home run the last time it was in San Francisco.

Casey Schmitt

One could argue that Casey Schmitt was snubbed of an All-Star appearance this year after a great first half. He is under team control through 2028 so unless he’s trade she should be with the Giants and if he continues to hit the way he did this year then he should have a spot in the lineup somewhere.

Rafael Devers

While it certainly seems like Matt Chapman, Willy Adames, and Rafael Devers are all in various states of decline, Devers should still be a solid hitter in 2028. If he’s still mashing homers then maybe he could participate in the Home Run Derby as well.

Of course, maybe someone comes out of nowhere and is an All-Star in 2028. I wouldn’t be opposed to a Bo Davidson or, heck, why not a Jackson Flora bursting onto the scene in a few years and earning a spot on the roster.

No matter what, it’s just cool that such a big baseball event will be back in San Francisco after so long.
