3 Heliot Ramos trades SF Giants wouldn't be able to say no to at trade deadline

The MLB trade deadline is a week away. The SF Giants have a number of trade chips at their disposal and according to reporting from Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Giants are open to trading outfielder Heliot Ramos but plan to hang onto Jung Hoo Lee.

This makes sense given the fact that Lee has become a fan-favorite in San Francisco and his contract is more complicated to trade. A lot of fans would be upset if the team traded him away and while Ramos was an All-Star in 2024 and has had some great moments as a Giant, he does have a lot of trade value as a right-handed hitting outfielder with power who is under team control for several more years.

Plus, the Giants have other outfielders in the pipeline who could contribute at the big league level soon. Victor Bericoto has already shown a lot of promise even though he’s currently on the IL. Parks Harber and Bo Davidson just got promoted to Triple-A and could potentially debut with the Giants at some point this season.

That doesn’t necessarily make Ramos expendable, but the Giants will at least have options to replace him if they do decide to trade him.

There are no guarantees that Ramos will be dealt, but if the Giants get an impressive haul then it will be very tough for them to say no especially with how this season has gone.

3 Heliot Ramos trades Giants would have to say yes to

Giants trade Ramos to the New York Yankees in exchange for RHP Carlos LaGrange, SS Kaeden Kent, and RHP Eric Reyzelman

This would be a great get for San Francisco. Carlos LaGrange is currently injured which could make a deal tougher to close, but the 23-year-old was recently converted from a starter to a reliever and the Giants could obviously use some help in the bullpen.

He’s 6-foot-7 and has a huge fastball so he’s a guy with closer stuff who is ranked as the No. 4 overall prospect in New York’s system.

Kaeden Kent is the son of recent Hall of Fame inductee Jeff Kent and it would be cool to add another Kent to the organization after they added another Bonds in the MLB Draft.

Eric Reyzelman is another reliever in the minors for New York. He’s a Bay Area native who has struggled in Triple-A this season but maybe coming home will help him get back on track.

The Yankees may be desperate for a power-hitting outfielder given Aaron Judge’s uncertain status so this is a realistic haul and LaGrange would be the centerpiece. 

Giants trade Ramos to the Phillies in exchange for OF Gabriel Rincones Jr., RHP Wen-Hui Pan, and RHP Alex McFarlane

This would be another trade that would get the Giants two promising young relief arms. Alex McFarlane was just called up for the Phillies after he had a 2.06 ERA in Double-A on the season. Pan has a 3.45 ERA in 26 relief appearances on the year.

Rincones Jr. would give the Giants an interesting potential replacement for Ramos. He hasn’t done much in the majors this season but he hit 18 homers in Triple-A last year.

Giants trade Ramos to the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for OF Jaison Chourio and RHP Khal Stephen

The Giants have already done business with the Guardians this year by trading catcher Patrick Bailey to Cleveland and maybe they can swing another trade since the Guardians struggle against left-handed pitching and that’s where Ramos thrives.

Chourio is indeed the younger brother of Jackson Chourio, the budding star with the Milwaukee Brewers. The younger Chourio is hitting .283/.385/.438 with eight home runs and 35 runs batted in on the season.

San Francisco has already seen Matt “Tugboat” Wilkinson thrive in the minors this season so why not add Stephen into the mix as well? He has a 3.44 ERA on the year in Double-A and would continue the team’s effort to add promising young arms to the farm system.

Ramos feels a lot like the trade chip Camilo Doval was for San Francisco last season. They aren’t exactly dying to get rid of him, but he’s a former All-Star who may be at the peak of his value and if the return is right then it’s probably best for the team to move on from him.
