SF Giants starter Landen Roupp went down with an apparent leg injury in the bottom of the third inning of a game against the San Diego Padres. He had to be carted off the field which is obviously not a great sign.

The play in question can be viewed below. Roupp had a line drive hit right back at him and hit him in the hip. His left knee seemed to buckle as he fell off the mound and he did not get back up until he was carted off.

It was a scary situation and something you never want to see. Roupp has been phenomenal for the Giants this season so if this is the way things end for him in 2025 it is an absolute shame. One can only hope the injury is not as bad as it appeared.

Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area noted on social media that the cart may have been more of a precaution given the number of stairs in the visiting dugout, but it is still never a good sign when a player has to be carted off and cannot leave the field under their own power.

In 22 starts this season, Roupp had a 3.63 ERA. He spent time on the IL with an elbow injury which left the rotation in a tough spot. This was just his second start coming back from the injury and there was already concern about the workload for his arm.

He rebounded nicely from a rough start early in the season as he was shown patience from the front office and coaching staff. That patience paid off as he established himself as the team's third-best starting pitcher behind Logan Webb and Robbie Ray.

There was hope that Roupp could be a future reliable piece of the starting rotation going forward. At the age of 26, he was already proving that he had a lot of potential with his sinker and impressive curveball.

Now, the Giants are simply hoping that this apparent leg injury will not be as serious as it looked and that he can be ready for the team to begin 2026.

UPDATE: Roupp was diagnosed with a left knee sprain and will undergo an MRI on Thursday.
