The San Francisco Giants just pulled off the absolute stunner of the trade deadline ... a month and a half early. Only a few hours after Rafael Devers' Red Sox had finished off a sweep of the hated Yankees - with one of their two runs coming home on a Devers homer scooped over the Green Monster - Boston decided to kick their star player off the team charter and ship him to the Bay Area.

We wish we were kidding about those particulars. They literally kicked him off the plane.

The Red Sox organization is now directly responsible for both centerpieces on either side of the Giants-Dodgers rivalry, which just got a tremendous kick in the pants with Devers joining Mookie Betts in a decade-long faceoff to come.

You'd be hard pressed to get a well-thought-out and measured reaction from any Giant right about now, given the fact that the entire active roster just got their faces melted while simultaneously saying goodbye to Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison, two very crucial teammates. Not only were the Giants forced to process this swiftly, but they were asked to do so in the spotlight of Sunday Night Baseball.

Willy Adames, manning shortstop, was asked live on the broadcast about the reported trade. He ... tried his best to contain his glee.

Sorry, Casey Schmitt, but I believe you may have to hand over your position once again. Appreciate the Friday night granny, though.

Devers' dispute with the Red Sox began when they moved him off his position behind the scenes, signing Alex Bregman (to a deal the ex-Astro can opt out of after 2025). Adames kept things light on the broadcast, but the reality is that the Giants know they have to hand over the hot corner (or face their new import's wrath). What comes when Matt Chapman returns? Will Devers be willing to play first base ... for a new group of overlords? Does Chapman move to the other corner permanently? Did somebody say ... DH?

For now, it's all smiles and shellshock, though. Live on the air.
