Top SF Giants prospect Bryce Eldridge is a tall man. The towering 6-foot-7 first baseman is an imposing figure in the batter's box, and he looks like he belongs on a basketball court more than he does a baseball field.
After the Golden State Warriors got some brutal injury news with star forward Jimmy Butler reportedly suffering a torn ACL, maybe the Warriors should call upon the 21-year-old prospect for some help.
SF Giants top prospect may need to help the Warriors in hour of need
Eldridge actually went to a Warriors game a few days ago and hung out with some of the players on the team. He posted an image on social media of him shooting around with the team with the caption "Lmk if you need a forward."
Ironically, the Warriors need a forward now more than ever after this brutal injury.
Something tells me the Giants probably aren't too keen on loaning out their young prospect, though. Eldridge figures to be a big part of San Francisco's plans in 2026 so they are going to need him to be as healthy as possible.
Eldridge is already coming off wrist surgery, although he should be ready by Opening Day, so he should be taking it easy ahead of spring training.
The tall slugger is coming into the season with a new number and as one of the most highly touted first base products in the game so he must carry the weight of a lot of expectations on those broad shoulders which could certainly allow him to dunk a basketball.
Eldridge had a brief cup of coffee with the Giants at the end of last season. His numbers were not all that impressive but he made some loud contact and nearly had a couple of home runs so he showed that his power can play at the big league level. His first career hit was an impressive double at Dodger Stadium which certainly seems like a good omen.
A big question will be where he spends the majority of his time. Rafael Devers figures to see the bulk of the time at first base, but maybe later in the year if Eldridge shows improvement defensively he can get some of those reps and allow Devers to get a bit of a breather as the designated hitter.
While the Warriors might be desperate enough to try the young ballplayer out at power forward, do not expect to see him in a Dubs jersey any time soon.
