Top SF Giants pitching prospect takes home Pitcher of the Year honors again

Jacob Bresnahan was introduced to another league in 2026. For the third straight year, the top SF Giants pitching prospect earned Pitcher of the Year honors.

Bresnahan’s first time getting recognized for this was in the Arizona Complex League with the Cleveland Guardians in 2024. That same season, he was traded to the Giants in a deal that sent Alex Cobb to Cleveland. Young infielder Nate Furman was also included in that deal.

Since then, Bresnahan has established himself as one of the top pitching prospects in the organization. This includes earning California League Pitcher of the Year honors last season. Before the draft and trade deadline, there was a good case that he was the top pitching prospect in the organization.

The Giants added a handful of intriguing pitchers in the draft, headlined by Jackson Flora. Ramon Marquez was among the pitchers added at the trade deadline.

There is still a strong case that Bresnahan is one of the top pitching prospects in the organization, and he continued to prove that with the Eugene Emeralds in 2026.

Bresnahan was not the only Emeralds player recognized in the year-end awards. Bresnahan, Jhonny Level, Dakota Jordan, and Ryan Vanderhei were recognized as Northwest League All-Stars. Level was also identified as the top major league prospect in the league, while Jacob Heyward was selected as the Manager of the Year.

Despite falling short of the Northwest League title, the Emeralds still put together an impressive season and had plenty of year-end recognition on top of it.

SF Giants pitching prospect performed better as the season progressed

Bresnahan was slowed by an injury to start the season. It took a few starts for him to get acclimated to the High-A competition level, but once he did, he did not look back.

Overall, the left-handed pitching prospect posted a 2.92 ERA in 20 starts with Eugene. This included a 1.99 ERA across 63.1 innings in his final 11 starts.

The Giants moved Bresnahan up to Double-A in the final weeks of the season. He made three regular season starts for the Richmond Flying Squirrels while becoming one of the younger pitchers at that level.
